Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take:Â
- To get to our Palatine office, take Euclid Ave west, then turn right onto US HWY 14. Exit and turn right onto Hwy 53. After the road straightens out northward, take the exit onto Rand Rd and turn left. Continue to the intersection with Dundee Rd and turn left, then turn right into our parking lot. We’re at 770 E Dundee Rd.
- Take Arlington Heights Rd north out of town, then turn left onto Rand Rd. Continue straight all the way to the intersection with Dundee Rd and turn left. You’ll pass the Jiffy Lube and another drive, and then take the next right for our clinic.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
The land that is now the Village of Arlington Heights was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Miami Confederacy, Iroquois, Meskwaki, and later the French-allied Potawatomi. The Potawatomi maintained a seasonal camp in the area until they ceded the land to the U.S. Government in the 1833 Treaty of Chicago, which spurred mass white immigration. Many prominent roads, such as Rand Road and Arlington Heights Road, were built on top of old Native American trails.
Early settlements in the area included a trading post established by Frederick T. Miner, leading to a cluster of cabins known as West Wheeling. In 1837, Asa Dunton settled in the area, and his son William Dunton was instrumental in bringing the Illinois & Wisconsin Railroad through his property, with the first train station built in 1854. The construction of the railroad significantly expanded the population, and the area became known as Dunton. By 1850, many German farmers arrived, turning the area into a notable source of truck farm and dairy products for Chicago. Dunton’s population surpassed 1200 by the 1870s, and in 1874, the town was officially renamed Arlington Heights.
Arlington Heights continued its slow growth into the 20th century. The village became well-known for the Arlington Park Racetrack, founded in 1927. A massive population surge occurred in the 1950s and 1960s, driven by increased car ownership, economic growth, the baby boom, and white flight from Chicago, raising the population to 64,884 by 1970. This expansion absorbed nearly all available land, integrating Arlington Heights into a continuous built-up area. More recently, the former racetrack site was purchased by the Chicago Bears.
