Pediatric Well Check-Up
Dr. Hetal Patel, a board-certified pediatrician, has been providing pediatric care at EUFC (EPIC Urgent & Family Care) for the past 5 years. She is affiliated with NCH (Northwest Community Hospital) and Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
During your visit, Dr. Patel will make sure your child is up to date with vaccines regardless of your insurance status. We can also provide School/Sport/Camp/College Physical forms during the visit if required.
An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth a Pound of Cure
Through well-child visits, we are able to provide parents an invaluable look at their child’s health over the long term. We can monitor their development and spot any emerging health problems early on. Without regular pediatric care visits like these, a problem may get worse and make treatment more complicated.
A well-child visit includes a full physical examination, complete with any recommended screenings for common health or developmental issues. We will record important information like height, weight, body mass index, and test results in your child’s file. This information can help us identify potential problems and diagnose current ones.
Stay Informed About Your Child’s Health
During a well-child visit, we will be able to give you important information about your child’s developmental stages, health issues unique to our area, safety concerns, and nutrition. We want to ensure that parents have the information they need to meet their children’s health needs.
Too often, parents’ questions about their children’s health go unanswered. Well-child visits are a perfect time for you to ask Dr. Patel any questions you may have. The opportunity to ask these questions is an essential component of pediatric care services.
Preparing For a Well-Child Visit
Before your child’s visit, we recommend compiling a list of questions about their health or development. Dr. Patel can help you navigate through problems like sleeping, eating, potty training, attention and learning problems, and normal social behaviors. You are your child’s most important advocate and are in a unique position to help the doctor understand them and your family, so don’t be afraid to ask your questions or share important information.
Pediatric Care Guarding Against Serious Diseases
Another key aspect of well-child visits in pediatric care is that they are a great way to keep up with your child’s immunizations. A CDC study showed that routine childhood immunizations are responsible for the largest decline of some of the most devastating diseases across the US population. Many diseases that once killed and maimed children in mass numbers are now highly preventable.
These diseases have not been totally eradicated, however; many of them are still prevalent in other countries and could easily return to the US if immunization rates fall. Studies show that unvaccinated children are much more vulnerable to these diseases.
The unfortunate irony in pediatric care and general healthcare is that vaccines have been so successful against them that many have forgotten how dangerous those diseases were when they were widespread. Many people no longer appreciate the value of protecting their children against diseases such as polio, pertussis, and measles.
